10 Questions with Alex Solis!

1.... what medium and tools do you use to create art?

I try to use as much different mediums as possible, but more recently I have been doing a ton of digital artwork.

2.... can you describe your creative process when making art?

Everything starts with a simple idea, I have a sketchbook I fill with doodles and ideas, no matter how dumb I try to sketch them down and then later on finalize them whether is digital, painting, sketches etc, usually the initial concept dictates or drives where the final will go.

3.... what helps boost your creativity?

I try to draw every single day, even if it's something small, staying in a routine always helps me think more about art and different concepts and helps me stay motivated.

4.... what helps you maintain focus and motivation when creating?

Always trying to see a project all the way to the end, even if sometimes I feel like it's a bit dumb or I hate it, i try to finish it anyway, Sometimes you learn a lot more from those projects then ones you're 100% happy with.

5.... what is the secret to creating a great piece of art?
I don't think there is a secret, I never really know what's gonna be great or not, but the more and more stuff I do I find it a bit easier to connect with different people through my art, specially from seeing what people hate and what people like. I try to just do stuff I like most of the time tho, hard to please everyone.

6.... do you feel its important to follow your passion in your career?

Yes 100% I work around the clock all the time and I don't feel like I'm working at all, more so doing what i love to do.

7.... how and when do you get your best ideas?

I have a ton of doodles, but as I mentioned before a lot of the ideas I thought were kinda dumb and silly, end up being some of my most popular designs, it's hard to tell what will be a hit and what wont, well most of the time.

8.... who are your favorite artists?

James Jean, Todd Schorr, Craola, those are some of the few that make me feel like I have a long way to go! haha

9.... do you offer workshops for artists?

I had a few tutorials on my website, I should add some more, they were taken down after the update, but I think learning from one another is always great, I try to learn as much as I can from people, but yeah workshops whenever I can and the opportunity presents itself.

10.... if you could give other artists one piece of advice what would it be?
Sounds cliche, but keep doing what you do and love, and do it ALOT! practice makes better.
